A couple of years ago I was doing an endurance event. I'd fuelled exactly how the label told me to. I was using the products everyone recommends. I trusted them.
200 metres from the finish line, my body shut down. Heat stroke. Severe dehydration. I woke up in hospital.
It was a rough lesson, but it changed everything. I started pulling apart every product I'd been using. What I found was damning: underdosed electrolytes, cheap maltodextrin as the carb source, artificial sweeteners causing GI distress, and proprietary blends hiding exactly how little of anything useful was actually in there.
The products weren't built for athletes. They were built for margins.
